swatched: kure bazaar mon bleu

July 25, 2012

I swatched Afrika from the French nail polish line Kure Bazaar a few weeks ago, and I’m finally wearing Mon Bleu on my nails today. What’s unique about this relatively new brand is its 85% natural formula, originating from wood pulp, wheat, cotton, potatoes, and corn.

Mon Bleu is a rich cobalt blue that applied in two easy coats. It’s a touch darker, but this shade looks a lot like Nails Inc. Baker Street, which I think suits my skin tone a bit better than Mon Bleu.

Sadly, this polish got chippy on me quite quickly. I painted my nails last night and snapped these photos before yoga class this morning, and I already have two pretty significant chips. The orange polish I tried from this line chipped quickly, too. Even so, the colors are stunning…

Is durability and wear-time something we have to give up if we want to transition to natural or at least less toxic products? Unfortunately, that has held true for me thus far.

Perhaps if I’m going to use polish with a natural formula, I need to switch to a natural base and top coat, too? (I used OPI Natural Nail Base Coat and Sally Hansen Hard as Nails with this mani). I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Pretty colour! It’s hard when there are very few to choose from (nail polishes that are more natural). Its a great step, but a new one, and I think the first ones will have defects in wear, possibly formula, that others may not. It’s usually worth keeping supporting it where possible so they have incentive to get even better in the future, and others can follow suit- and promote healthy competition :)

Agreed – always good to support new companies who are doing something different. Thanks for commenting!

I love that color! But since “tried-and-true” polish brands chip on me … not in this brand. Sigh.

Yeah, the color is great. Try Baker Street instead…Nails Inc. generally rocks when it comes to wear time.

Have you tried any of American Apparel’s nail polishes? They are “three free” (No DBP, toluene or formaldehyde) and are made in the US. One of my favorite of the more natural polishes…though I bite my nails so it’s hard to tell how long they go without chipping :/
