on her nails: janna

May 8, 2012

Meet Janna! She’s a yoga teacher and a writer, and if that wasn’t enough, she happens to have great nails, too. Janna is working to get her memoir published, so I thought this was the perfect time to introduce you all to this lovely gal…

Name: Janna

Where are we? Court Street in Brooklyn, right outside neighborhood bookstore BookCourt.

What are you wearing? The pink is Essie Fiesta and the neon orange is Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Radiate.

Salon or do-it-yourself mani? DIY, all the way.

Why did you choose these colors? I kept seeing all of these neon bright nails that I loved, but I’d done that before so I wanted a little twist.

Why do you wear nail polish? It’s one of the things I love about being a girl – you can wear nail polish! My grandmother wore red. My mother wears a lot of earth tones and beiges. And I fall anywhere on the spectrum. It’s just…fun.

If you could only wear one polish for the rest of your life, what would it be? Red. I always go for red first. As long as they have OPI The Thrill of Brazil, it will be that particular red.

And now a question just for you. Tell me about your book! Yes, I wrote a book. He Never Liked Cake is a memoir, the story of growing up with my father’s traumatic brain injury. It’s a necessary resource for the TBI community (the first of its kind from this perspective) and for book club lovers and lit folk alike, it’s a compelling narrative about what happens when life doesn’t work out the way we had it planned.

I’m publishing it through PUBSLUSH Press and if I can 1,000 pre-orders it will be in bookstores (and on tablets) worldwide and spreading TBI awareness like wildfire! Click here to read an excerpt and/or pre-order Janna’s book!

My fingers are bare in preparation for a pre-Mexico mani, but I’ve still got Essie’s Sure Shot on my toes. This is definitely my favorite colors these days.
