nail art: color block nails & a giveaway!
Color blocking is big in the fashion world this year, and I wanted to bring the bright, saturated fun to my nails. This look is easy to achieve, so grab your Scotch Tape and let’s get started.
I began by painting my nails with RGB Dew, a pale pastel green. After applying a top coat and letting the polish dry completely (it’s best to wait a couple hours), I cut two thin pieces of Scotch Tape. I placed one vertically and one horizontally across my nail, creating four squares.

Don't worry if it looks a little messy right now - it's easy to clean this up with a makeup brush dipped in remover later on.
I’ve added a lot of brights to my collection this season, so I grabbed Notting Hill Gate, Portobello, and Westbourne Grove from Nails, Inc., along with Mattese Elite Almost Famous. I filled in each of the four squares with a different shade of polish and then carefully removed the tape strips to reveal the finished design.
I cleaned up any stray polish on my skin with a little remover on a makeup brush, and then added a shiny top coat to finish off this modern, on-trend look.
And now…what better day than a Friday for a GIVEAWAY? I love Nails Inc. polish, and one of you will win the Neon & Nude Collection, which includes 6 minis in Notting Hill Gate, Portobello, Westbourne Grove, Jermyn Street, Porchester Square, and Cadogan Square. I used three of these colors in today’s design.
To enter, please leave a comment below telling me what you’re looking forward to in nails or fashion this spring/summer, or a post idea you’d like to see here on the blog.
For an extra entry, please follow me on Facebook or Twitter and leave a SEPARATE comment telling me you did so (or already do)!
I’ll choose a random winner on Wednesday, May 2nd. Good luck!

I love that neons, pastels, AND nudes are trending for the spring/summer. The variety means that everyone, regardless of skintone or age can find something that works for them. I also love that it is totally acceptable, and easy even, to mix the trends in a way that’s not too off the wall or in your face.

Great tutorial! I love neons for spring and summer. I’ll definitely try this out!

At the moment, I really want to get metalic (silver) nail polish, you know, that really really metalic looking. If you know where I could find it- I would love to hear! And I think combination of black nails with silver tips would look great for this season!
Nails Inc Cambridge Terrace (http://www.nailsinc.com/nailpolish/cambridge-terrace-polish/856/), OPI DS Radiance (http://www.amazon.com/OPI-Designer-Series-Radiance-Polish/dp/B003ZW2M5Q), and China Glaze Platinum Silver (http://www.amazon.com/China-Glaze-Platinum-Silver/dp/B001AL8424/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335540294&sr=8-1) are all good metallics!
omg, you’re the best!
I’m loving the color blocking trend. It’s so liberating to not be so matchy, matchy…I’m sure that’s a technical fashion term
I follow you on Twitter. My name is @jrockdontstop.
What colors can a normally pasty girl wear with a summer tan? Can’t wait to check out some new shades after my Mexico vacation:-)

I am really liking the neon trend, to be honest. It was kinda scary to get out of my “box” and try a neon pink a few weeks ago, but it was SO fun to wear that color.

Reblogged this on InspiredWeightloss!.
I’m mostly just excited to continuing experimenting with nail color and nail art. I haven’t been this excited about my nails since middle school, honestly. I love the reawakened interest in nails, nail art, and doing your own nails (though I still go for pedicures…). I really enjoy following your blog and others to get new ideas and inspiration for my nails. My favorite thing lately has been using scotch tape, an idea I got from your post on @birchbox! I just tweeted a photo of my attempt at color blocking.
A (fun) challenge this summer will be to have fun with my nails while still keeping them semi-professional looking for my new office job. I am up for the challenge!
Oh, and I follow you on twitter.

i love all the neon & bright colors for summer. im so used to using dark colors. i need to go get me some bright colors for summer and try them out. love your blog!!!!
I’m liking these! I would have though’t they’d make your nails appear really square but they just don’t… This spring, I’m already loving the nude/neon thing – it seriously is my favorite trend for the past year or so! For Summer, I’m liking what I’m predicting to be a huge leap in DIY tribal – with the WAH book release and stores such as Topshop now selling nail pens I think more people are going to give it a go (and I’m betting Tribal will be what they start with)
I’m loving pastels. Especially lilac. I’m currently wearing Nars’ Pokerface – so beautiful!!! I even tried some DIY nail art of an owl! What an exciting giveaway, thanks!
Definitely excited to wear more neons and not get (as many) funny looks for it!

I’m loving the sudden fanaticism over indie polish brands! I’ve snagged some fabulous, super bright glitters that will be perfect for summer beach days.
Oh, and I follow you on Twitter, too! (@allyayers)
This spring I’m looking forward to pastels and glitter. This summer, I’m looking forward to neon polish and glitter. As well, the outline or border mani, where the nail is painted one color and then the edges are outlined in an accent color, preferably neon, is looking awesome.
I’m loving the color blocking trend, and you can never go wrong with some glittery nails!
This summer I’m really looking forward to the pastel polishes that have been popping up everywhere, It was my birthday today and I acquired my first bottle of a shimmery pastel blue polish called ‘Air’ by Sally Hansen. I love blues and greens, but I want to try out some other colours as well, reds and corals especially. This year I am graduating from high school and I would love to have some fun, and show off my summery mood with some funky summer polish. (:
I am now following you on Facebook as well! hope I’m not too late.
I’m excited to be able to wear brights. I love the neon trend. So much easier to do on my nails than with clothing. Also excited for the China Glaze Bohemian collection.
More than anything I can’t wait to incorporate some fun bright colors into my drab dark winter clothing! I get to spruce up my fashion and I feel more adventurous with my style choices during the summertime – probably because I’m rid of tights, oversized cardigans, boots, etc. I can be free in dresses, sandals, tanks and shorts!
Also I’m following you on Twitter!
I might be too late for this, but I figured I would leave a comment anyways. I just found your site and absolutely love it!
And, I just liked you on Facebook!
Oh, and to answer the question about trends this spring/summer – I absolutely love the neon trend! I just painted my toenails in CG Pink Voltage and love it. I am really liking the Portabello color from Nails Inc.
