Meet the delightful, wise, and gosh-darn-lovely Sandra! Her sparkly nails caught the sun and my eye in an early morning yoga class, so I grabbed her to chat after we rolled up our mats.
Name: Sandra
Where are we today? On Court Street, just outside of Mala Yoga, my favorite morning destination.
What are you wearing? Sephora by OPI, part of a cute little mini set my friend Diana got me for my birthday. (Let Them Eat Fruitcake and It’s Bouquet with Me from the Glimmer Wonderland collection.)
Salon or do-it-yourself mani? 100% DIY. Welcome to Brooklyn, where handmade always trumps store-bought.
Why did you choose this color? I’ve been wearing a lot of dark shades, and I suddenly felt light and sparkly.
Why do you wear nail polish? I don’t wear much jewelry, so nail polish is a nice stand-in. And practicing yoga means that I spend a lot of time staring at my toes, even in the middle of winter.
If you could only wear one color for the rest of your life, what would it be? Red? And purple/pink? And navy-blue-almost-black? I’m cool with commitment. But apparently not to a single nail polish color.

After my first real mani in months, I’ve got on a mystery OPI color. I forget what the name is, but what I thought was going to be a deep fuschia is actually a dark cranberry in the sunlight. Darn fluorescent lighting, but pretty nonetheless.
